Lori DeJong, an author with Scrivenings Press, has a new book in her award-winning contemporary romance series. The series is described as, “Three stories of discovering and following the calling of God, through past hurts and tragedies, to the peace and joy of forgiveness, hope, and redemption.”
Love’s True Calling is the first book in the series. It won a third place award in the 2023 Angel Book Awards, was a Selah Award finalist, and is a finalist in the 2024 Faith, Hope, & Love Reader’s Choice Award.
The second book in the series, Love’s True Home, debuts on June 25th.
Lori answered some fun questions for us today.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?
Winnie the Pooh. He is so innocent yet so wise. A wonderful friend who has surrounded himself with wonderful friends. Always happy, always sees the good. Enjoys the simple things in life—living in a tree, eating honey right out of the pot, wearing the same thing every day. 😊
What are you working on right now?
Getting ready to launch Love’s True Home, Book Two of my True Calling series on June 25. I’m also writing Love’s True Measure, the third and final book of the series, releasing in June 2025.
What is your next writing project?
My publisher has a romantic suspense manuscript on her desk right now that I’m hoping will be contracted. If so, it will probably be at least a three-book series. I also have another manuscript in the pipeline for future submission–a romantic suspense with a good dose of cowboy thrown in.
How do you relax and recharge when you step away from writing?
I try to catch up on my To Be Read pile when I’m not actually writing. I really enjoy reading other people’s books, both for pleasure and to see what I can learn that will inform my own writing. When I’m not writing or reading, I like to watch the heavy rescue towing shows on the Weather Channel. My new guilty pleasure. Strangely addictive.
What book or book series have you recently enjoyed reading?
The best book I’ve read in the past year is Nicole Deese’s The Words We Lost. Phenomenal. And Melissa Tagg’s Muir Harbor series was wonderful. I know I’m really invested when I wish the series didn’t end.
What’s your best advice for other writers?
Find your people. A writing group, critique partners, brainstorming partners. Go to conferences and take webinars and workshops and do everything you can to not only connect with other writers but learn the craft of writing. There’s so much more to it than just writing a book.
