Nothing heats up a cold day faster than a HOT new murder mystery. Immerse yourself into Death Under the Ice, a new release from my friend, Deborah Sprinkle. Here is a brief description of the cold murder situation.
When Homeland Security Analyst Claire Green’s brother, Alan, urges her to come visit, she clears her desk in Chicago and heads for southern Ohio. But when she arrives, the house is deserted and her brother is missing. Claire enlists the help of Alan’s neighbors, Madison Zuberi and her husband, Captain Nate Zuberi of the Pleasant Valley Police Force, in the quest to find her brother. But she’s in for two surprises. First, Alan has been keeping secrets from her—secrets that may have gotten him killed, and put her life in danger. Second, Private Investigator Rafe O’Connell, the only man she ever loved—and lost—is a close friend of Madison and Nate’s, and they ask him to be part of the investigation. Claire needs their help, but can she put past hurts behind her as she not only tries to find her brother, but stay alive?
I asked Deborah to answer a few fun questions for us.
What is the one thing we would never guess about you?
Unless you knew me, I don’t think you’d ever guess that my first love was chemistry, and that I was a research chemist, an organic synthesis chemist, and a chemistry teacher for a time in my life. I actually shook the hands of seven Nobel prize winners while working at Washington University Medical School.
What are you working on right now?
As I write this, I am under a deadline. I have until March 1 to finish my fourth book in my Mac and Sam mystery series entitled The Case of the Intentional Accident. This series, unlike my first, takes place in a real town outside of St. Louis, Missouri, with two young women who have established a private investigation agency.
What is your next writing project?
I have two projects in mind for the future. One is a fifth book in the Mac and Sam mystery series, and the other is another novella for a collection written with two friends. We have a novella collection coming out in May of this year entitled Trinity Sands Beach Club, and if we get approval to write a second, it would take place in the Georgia mountains.
How do you relax and recharge when you step away from writing?
I love games. My husband and I have a couple we get together with for dinner and a game of dominoes or Yahtzee or Sequence or … you get the picture. In between those times, I play solitaire on my computer and do puzzles.
I also enjoy time with family. The latest thing we did was go to an art exhibit at a local gallery and then to lunch.
What are you most thankful for?
My husband. He’s my best friend, my staunchest supporter, and the love of my life.
Do you journal?
Every Christmas I ask for the journaling version of Jesus Always by Sarah Young. It’s my favorite daily devotional, and it never ceases to amaze me how every year each day means something new to me. That’s why I want the version with the lines next to the devotional. I write my thoughts and prayers in there. And I look at last year’s journal to see what I wrote the year before—what was on my heart then, what prayers God has answered and how.
What book or book series have you recently enjoyed reading?
I listen to books while driving a lot, and when I do, I love books by C J Box. They’re not Christian, but they’re pretty clean. No sex, but they can be a little gruesome at times. The main character is a Wyoming game warden named Joe Pickett. He’s a good man who lives by a strong code of ethics and morals. Lots of action and I love his depictions of the West and the mountains.
What is your superpower?
I suppose my ability to project my voice is my superpower. In a room filled with chatty women, I can always get their attention. I’ve been called upon in many occasions to use my ability to bring order out of chaos. LOL!
What’s your best advice for other writers?
My best advice is probably what you hear a lot—learn the craft, build relationships within the writing community, and persevere.

Thank you, Linda! I agree that Deb writes fantastic mysteries. Never a dull moment in this book, nor any of her other mysteries.
