Elaine Cooper is adding book two, “Winter’s Ravage” to her Dawn of America series this month. “Winter’s Ravage” will be released on Amazon on March 28, available in paperback and digital format. As a treat for us today, Elaine took a moment to answer a few fun questions, below.
What is your next writing project?
I’m finishing a novella for a Christmas collection. I’m writing with three wonderful authors who I am so honored to be working with! Once that is completed, I’ll start on book 3 in the Dawn of America series. It’s entitled “Courier’s Return.”
How do you relax and recharge when you step away from writing?
With a cup of hot Twinings English Breakfast tea and my dog, Mocha, and my 2 kitties, Maisy and Fiona. But I have to remember to close my laptop to be sure Fiona (6 months old) doesn’t delete part of my work!!!
What is the one thing we would never guess about you?
I have to type all my books one-handed. My left hand has nerve damage from a childhood accident and I had to teach myself to type with just my right hand. One day when my granddaughter, Chloe saw me working, she said, “GiGi, you’re doing that wrong.” I giggled and told her about my hand. She thought a moment and said, “Huh, You’re pretty fast!”
What genre would you like to consider in the future that differs from what you do now?
I’ve always been fascinated by the abolitionists who helped slaves in the south escape through the Underground Railroad. I’d love to go on a research tour and gather true stories for a book set in the 19th century.
What are you most thankful for?
For my healthy brain that usually functions pretty well. My husband has dementia from a stroke 4 years ago and it is painful to watch him struggle with his memory. He was my mentor when I was learning to write, and now, he cannot even write an email. So very sad.
What’s your best advice for other writers?
Go to Christian writers’ conferences. They are all across the country in a variety of locations. Connecting with other authors is an encouragement you’ll find that you really need to progress in your craft.
