My friend, Jenny Carlisle, has a wonderful new book being published. She shared some fun information with us regarding her book and her future projects.
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what would you like?
Twining’s Decaffeinated Earl Grey Tea. I have always loved drinking hot tea. I drink it in the morning instead of coffee, and at any time of the day when I need to relax. I discovered this flavor when hubby and I used to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel, and I was thrilled to learn that my regular grocery store sells it.
What’s the one thing we would never guess about you?
My voice has been heard on Radio Free Europe.
Several years ago, a monthly radio program called Tales from the South was hosted in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It featured true stories told by people who lived in the South. I appeared three times, two of my stories were about encounters with our governor Bill Clinton who became president. The other was about my experience as director of a cub scout Day Camp. My stories were written and practiced ahead of time. But, when the hostess introduced me live on the radio, telling how many millions of people might be listening, I thought my heart would drop into my socks. Luckily, I closed my eyes for a split second, took a deep breath and pressed on. It did get easier the second and third time. The people in the live audience seemed to enjoy my stories, and who knows, maybe someone on the other side of the world did too!
What are you working on right now?
With the release of my first story, Hope Takes the Reins, I have more stories to tell about the residents of fictional Crossroads, Arkansas. I am creating a novella set at Christmas time, and two more full length books about the Caldwell and Billings families.
How do you relax and recharge when you step away from writing?
My husband and I love to travel. When everything comes together, we might make a trip to see our kids and grands in Arkansas, Oklahoma or Texas. We also have an increasing “bucket list” of places we would like to go together, including the Grand Canyon, and the Smoky Mountains. On ordinary days, when we feel the need to bust out of our house, we pack a quick lunch and drive around the Arkansas back roads. There are so many great places to see within an hour or so of where we live.
Why should anyone who is reading this give my first book a try?
My projects have had trouble fitting into a traditional category. Not a typical romance, they are more like “coming of age” stories. I love to explore the spiritual and emotional growth of young people as they emerge from childhood into their own version of adult life. All of my characters learn that God is always with them, and that He has a perfect plan. Using realistic but quirky characters with a touch of humor, I hope my readers will leave each of my books with a smile, and enough hope to get them through their day.
